Options Seeks Managing Editor

Options Magazine is an education and resource publication for the LGBTQIA+ community of Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts.


Options is seeking a Managing Editor with a flexible start date of October 1, 2021.


Managing Editor Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with local writers, organizations, and the Options Editorial Committee to produce original content for publication in e-newsletters, social media, and website

  • Proofread, restructure, and edit articles by volunteer content writers with feedback from a team of volunteer copy editors (conducted online or in-person as preferred)

  • Procure images available for publication from volunteer photographers and image subscription services, and credit as appropriate

  • Oversee the Resources Editor and Calendar Editor’s website updates

  • Facilitate meetings of a volunteer Editorial Committee to determine the publication’s editorial vision

  • Oversee the Social Media Coordinator's updates to the website and social media platforms

  • Work with the Social Media Coordinator to achieve Options’ content and communications strategy, within a publishing calendar

  • Prepare and publish the final version of two e-newsletters per month based on the agreed schedule

  • Regularly review the website content for accuracy and relevance to the current focus of Options’ advocacy, community efforts, and strategy

  • Manage the editorial calendar, providing deliverables to deadline to ensure timely publication

  • Generate new ideas around Options-related topics

  • Accept related deliverables of nominal time commitment at the request of the Editorial Committee or the Board of Directors

  • Coordinate with the Advertising Manager, Designer, Resources Editor, Calendar Editor, Editorial Committee, and the Board of Directors as needed

This is a part-time contracted position with negotiable pay.
