About the Event
The ‘Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson’ follows prominent figures in the gay liberation and transgender rights movement in New York City from the 1960s to the 1990s. A veteran of the Stonewall Rebellion and co-founder with Sylvia Rivera of the Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries, Marsha P. Johnson raised issues still relevant today. Her words ring true “How many years has it taken people to realize that we are all brothers and sisters and human beings in the human race?” The film centers on activist Victoria Cruz's investigation into Johnson's death in 1992, which was initially ruled a suicide by police despite suspicious circumstances. There will be a moderated discussion to follow.
